"No one can whistle a Symphony, it takes an Orchestra to play it"
Music has always inspired people and uplifted spirits throughout history. The Tzu Chi Youth Orchestra (TCYO) was created not only to uplift spirits, but also to kindle tenderness and kindness in people and to foster a sense of community among young musicians between ages 10-18. TCYO is a full symphonic ensemble which provides serious young music students a unique pre-professional ensemble training experience.
Youth Orchestra members are coached regularly by a professional musician, Doctor Emily Chao, a USC alumnus who currently conducts the New Orange County Children's Choi, had her conducting training with renowned Larry Livingston and Sharon Lavery.
Annually, the Youth Orchestra will present two concerts and a number of "community outreach" performances in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas.
Tzu Chi Youth Orchetra offers opportunities for young musicians to learn collaboration and coordination which they don't usually receive through private lessons. Student musicians will explore different music and build up ensemble repertoire in a friendly environment.
